Overview

The scope of the Regional ITS Architecture can be described in terms of: 1) the size of the region and jurisdictions covered (geographic scope), 2) the planning or time horizon, and 3) the variety of transportation services that are covered. This scope is defined in the context of adjacent and overlapping Regional ITS Architectures.

Description

The Fresno County Regional ITS Architecture encompasses the Fresno County Region, coinciding with the planning area for the Fresno Council of Governments (Fresno COG). Fresno COG is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Fresno County Region.

Time Frame

20 years

Geographic Scope

The geographic scope of the Fresno County Regional ITS Architecture is the entirety of Fresno County, including all incorporated cities, all unincorporated communities, all unincorporated lands, and all Caltrans facilities within the County.

Service Scope

The previous ITS plan and architecture for Fresno County were completed in 1999 as part of the Fresno County ITS Strategic Deployment Plan (SDP) development. While elements of the original SDP may be reflected in this ITS plan and architecture, because they are still relevant, a majority of the ITS architecture is new based on existing and planned infrastructure and systems in the Fresno County Region. This Regional ITS Architecture was completed in conjunction with the update to the Fresno County ITS Strategic Deployment Plan, and is consistent with the list of future projects anticipated for the stakeholders within the Fresno County Region.
